On 31 August 2026, the Attorney-General released the exposure draft of the Privacy Amendment (Personal Data Protection) Bill 2026 (Cth) (Draft Bill) and an accompanying consultation paper.
This is the long-awaited Tranche 2 reform of the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) (Privacy Act), and these changes are likely to have a more significant and immediate impact than the 2024 amendments which have been are a bit of a slow burn.
